New York State Unemployment Insurance Benefits
Unemployment insurance is a very effective source of help for the qualified workers who have suddenly become unemployed and are still willing to work but are not able to find jobs according to their capability. In New York, employees are guaranteed premium unemployment insurance with deductions done in the tax payments of employers. Employees are not required to make payments for their unemployment benefits and the amount is not deducted from their salaries. The Department of Labor is responsible for deciding whether a particular unemployed worker can be included in the category of workers receiving unemployment insurance benefits.
An employee should fulfill certain criteria for inclusion in an unemployment insurance benefits program, which include the following:
• He must be ready to work and should be in the condition to work. He must be willing to start his employment as soon as possible and must be actively looking out for work. He should be searching for work for which he is duly capable in terms of his former skill and training. For receiving any kind of unemployment insurance benefits, the employee should be willing to work and psychologically and physically competent to do work to receive benefits.
• An employee should make efforts to file a claim in the week once he/she becomes completely or moderately unemployed. Any kind of delay in filing a claim for such benefits can cost an employee dearly in terms of the payments that he might be able to receive.
• An employee should be able to submit important documents at the time of registration like his Social Security number, his New York State driver's license or Motor Vehicle ID card number whichever is available, entire mailing address and zip code and names and addresses of all employers for whom he has worked for the last 18 months. An employee can also file the names of employees in other states if he has worked with them for the past 18 months.
• Easy application can be made with the help of an on-line application form. No discrimination is made in this registration with respect to the creed, race, national origin, marital status, color, sex, and age of the employee. Without giving any kind of consideration to these factors, an employee’s claim gets evaluated o the basis of his eligibility for the claim.
If an employee wants to opt for a direct lump sum deposit of the weekly benefits, he must have a check available with him at the time of registration so that he is able to submit his checking account or savings account numbers and bank routing numbers.
• A Non-US resident can also go for this kind of a claim if he is able to submit his residency proof of an Alien Registration card number.
After undergoing through such a process, an employee is granted his social security number and a pin code. He is also entitled to use another person for help provided he is a physically challenged person and cannot operate the pin on his own. But he should be able to safeguard the leakage of his pin; otherwise he will have to pay dearly in terms of a fraudulent usage of his pin and withdrawal of benefits.
